    • Initial payment: Actual cash value (replacement cost minus depreciation)
    • Recoverable depreciation: Paid after repairs are completed, when you submit receipts showing the full repair cost

    For example, if your 15-year-old roof is damaged: Replacement cost is $15,000, depreciation (15 years) is $7,500, initial payment is $7,500 (ACV), and after repairs with receipts you receive the additional $7,500 (recoverable depreciation).

    Step 7: Complete Repairs

    Once you've received payment, you can complete permanent repairs. If you have replacement cost coverage, save all receipts — you'll need them to claim the recoverable depreciation.

    You're not required to use specific contractors. Get multiple bids, check references, and choose a reputable contractor.

    Step 8: Claim Closure

    After repairs are complete and final payments made, the claim closes. Complex home claims can take several months to fully resolve.
